Dr Sharon JeyaumarDr. Sharon Jeyakumar is a Registered Psychologist in the Province of British Columbia (#1801). She received her Doctorate and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Windsor, and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings in British Columbia, Ontario, and Michigan over the past fifteen years, including a pain clinic, university psychological services centre, two outpatient mental health centres, three psychiatric hospitals, an inpatient rehabilitation unit, and a tertiary assessment and treatment centre for clients with developmental disabilities. Dr. Jeyakumar previously worked in a group practice specializing in personal injury claims and provided assessments for diagnostic and medical-legal purposes. She has appeared before the law courts to provide expert opinion on MVA-related clinical issues.

Dr. Jeyakumar’s clients have come from diverse backgrounds and range in age from late adolescent to geriatric. She has also worked with individuals with ongoing health issues, such as chronic pain, disability, dementia, and brain injury. She has had training and experience with a number of different theoretical orientations and approaches, including

  • cognitive-behavioural
  • humanistic/experiential
  • process-focused
  • mindfulness
  • eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
  • solution-focused
  • family systems
  • short-term crisis intervention, and
  • psychodynamic approaches.

Dr. Jeyakumar has also co-facilitated a psychoeducational group for individuals in emotional crisis as well as a co-facilitated a support group for partners, families, and friends of transgendered individuals.
