Philosophy

I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach that is tailored to each individual client’s needs and draws from a variety of theoretical orientations, including experiential/gestalt, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, and psychodynamic traditions. I believe in a client-centred and collaborative approach, in which clients are an active participant in the therapeutic process. I aim to help clients achieve greater well-being and empowerment through increased self-awareness and understanding of their own life experiences. I believe in each client’s unique strengths and abilities to discover their inner wisdom, and by drawing upon these, work to help clients develop the tools to cope with life’s challenges and create a life that leads to greater satisfaction.

I believe that an effective working therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist is one of the most important elements in achieving therapeutic success. A supportive and caring therapeutic relationship allows clients to feel safe and comfortable enough to explore personal experiences that can be painful and overwhelming, but ultimately lead to healing, self-empowerment, confidence, and personal transformation.

A good fit between therapist and client is important in creating a solid, working therapeutic relationship. The job of a psychologist, in my view, is not to judge you or tell you how to live your life, but to help empower you to make your own choices and find your own solutions.
